Year 1

Miss Newcombe - Year 1 Class Teacher

Hi I'm Miss Newcombe and I have been teaching Year 1 at Kingston Park Academy for almost a year now.  Before that I worked as an Early Years Specialist support assistant at another school for Delta. I love working with the young children of Year 1. Everyday we laugh and smile and the children are so supportive and encouraging of each other's learning.

They all make me very proud.

When I am not at school, I love to spend lots of time with my friends and family and my baby niece.  I like to read books, go swimming and visit new places.

I have worked at Kingston Park for two years now. I enjoy spending time with the children and helping them learn new things. I spend my spare time with family and caring for my pet animals, two rabbits, two dogs and two hamsters.

 'The Enchanted Woodlands'

If you go down to the woods today you’re sure of a BIG surprise!

Foxes and badgers, voles and mice, beady-eyed owls in the swaying treetops. Beneath the leaves are tiny footprints… animal or imp? You decide!

This half term we are going to be doing a spring hunt around our school grounds to identify the changes in nature. We are going to identify deciduous and evergreen trees and look closely at natural objects such as leaves, twigs, berries, plants and insects.

We will be going for a walk to our local woods to observe nature and collect natural items and take photographs of flowers. We will then join Y3 in producing a floral landscape design to enter into the British Flowers Week festival at Clumber Park.

Other topics we have looked at this year are....

 ‘Dinosaur Planet’

Stomp, crash, RRRAGH! Watch out everyone – the dinosaurs are on the prowl.

This half term our topic is Dinosaur Planet, so let’s explore! We will be visiting Magna Science Adventure Centre to dig deep and discover dazzling dinosaur facts.

In maths we will be measuring dinosaurs to find out just how big they were. We will be finding out what dinosaurs liked to eat, were they carnivores, herbivores or omnivores?

Then we will be looking closely at fossils and making our own replicas, as well as creating our own dinosaur models using recycled materials.

Doyouthinkhesawus? Yes he did… RUN!

'Bright Lights Big City'

This term are topic is all about London, cities and the four countries of the UK.

We will be learning all about the Great Fire of London.

KERPOW! Intergalactic greetings, young heroes. It’s time to rescue the planet from evil villains!

For our topic this half term we will be discussing our favourite superheroes and finding out about real-life heroes.

We will be using our super senses to identify mystery items by their smell, taste, touch and sound. What do true superheroes eat to keep their senses and special powers sharp?

Time to save the world… ZAP! WHIZZ! ZOOOOM!
