Foundation Stage 1

Mrs Butler - FS1 Class Teacher

My name is Mrs Butler and I started teaching the wonderful children at Kingston Park in January 2018. Before that, I taught English at secondary school for nearly 20 years but decided I wanted a big change; teaching in Foundation 1 is certainly a big change and it's a fantastic one as well!

I love seeing the faces of each of the children light up with a wide, proud smile as they say, "Look!" before showing and telling me all about how they've: mixed together two colours to make a new one; created a colourful painting; built a 'bonfire' in the garden; brewed up a cup of 'tea' for me in the mud kitchen outside or managed to get to the top of the climbing wall for the first time. I've always been passionate about reading and writing and I'm looking forward to helping all the children in Foundation to be keen readers and writers as well.

Outside of school, I enjoy reading, being outdoors in the countryside, cake decorating and going on long holidays to France to catch up with my family.

'How many colours are in a rainbow?'

This term we are looking at how many colours are in a rainbow. We will explore ideas around colours in nature including patterns and camouflage. We will investigate how colours can be mixed together to make new colours and what different colours are found in the natural world.  We will be going on a trip to the Harley Gallery to see how artist use colour.

Reading at Home

Share stories as regularly as you can. Look at the picture and talk about them. Encourage children to predict what might happen, join in and remember what has happened.

Homework will be set half termly linked to the topic. The homework this term is to be supported by parents/carers but please encourage children to talk about it and add their marks and drawings.
